The reshaping of World Mission
World Mission restructured for greater responsiveness and support
World Mission
Hunter Farrell, Director

Presbyterian World Mission brings God's global family together to heal the wounds of poverty and violence, and proclaim God's saving love in Jesus Christ.
The year 2012 marks the 175th anniversary of international mission by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Over the years, Presbyterian missionaries have planted churches, built hospitals, and started schools on every continent. The seeds sown by those missionaries have, in many places, developed into self-sustaining churches and institutions now led by local Christians. In fact, more than 94 million Christians around the world came to faith through denominations that were founded or cofounded by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) mission workers. Today, nearly 200 mission co-workers in 50 countries are engaged in equally vital ministries of sharing faith and working against poverty and violence.
Presbyterian World Mission helps Presbyterians offer a witness to Jesus Christ in today’s world by sending mission personnel to face the challenges of evangelizing and continuing the historic emphasis of the Church.
In collaboration with U.S. Presbyterians and global partners, World Mission inspires, equips and connects communities of mission practice to engage in God’s mission: to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, help the most vulnerable—women and children, and promote reconciliation within cultures of violence.
We invite you to step into the circle of global discipleship with World Mission.

If your congregation would like to become a sending congregation for one of our almost 200 mission workers around the world—please contact Bruce Whearty or Chris Roseland.

Presbyterian World Mission Giving Opportunities 2011-2012
Presbyterian mission personnel serve alongside global partners in more than 50 countries around the world. They proclaim Christ’s good news, empower vulnerable people, and build bridges of reconciliation in some of the world’s most troubled places. They also are working with grassroots Presbyterians and global partners to form what we call “communities of mission practice.”
We believe these communities offer places for mutual learning and increase our faithfulness and effectiveness in mission. We invite every congregation to build a relationship with at least one mission worker. This relationship may involve prayer and correspondence. It also could include providing financial contributions through a World Mission account listed in this book. We hope your congregation will prayerfully consider building a relationship with one or more mission workers.

Three critical global issues for World Mission
Read about the three critical global issues that global partners, mission personnel, and Presbyterians across the United States have asked World Mission to address: the root causes of poverty, especially as it impacts women and children; working to share the good news of Jesus Christ; and working for reconciliation among cultures of violence, including our own. Keep reading.
Presbyterian World Mission Strategic Direction
In February 2010 the General Assembly Mission Council (GAMC) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) adopted a “strategic direction” for its Presbyterian World Mission over the next three to five years.
The mission statement of the new strategy is “to engage with U.S. Presbyterians and global partners for faithful and effective participation in God’s mission in a globalized world, growing together as communities of mission practice.”

Is Presbyterian Disaster Assistance doing anything for the drought victims in East Africa? I am Co-Chair of the East Africa Partnership with Limuru Presbytery in southern Kenya, but don't know of a way to get aid to northern Kenyan where so many refugees are. Many people are asking me for a reputable organization through which to donate. Can you give me any help here?
