As SDOP celebrate its work in the Dominican Republic we wanted to give you a comprehensive picture of our many accomplishments in the region. The strategy of focused funding in the Dominican Republic began in 2007, it ends in 2010. Partnerships have been established with 16 communities for a total of $546,240.
Initially we identified three organizations working in communities who had an understanding of communities, their needs and abilities; and who had trusting relationships with the community people.

Community Financial Literacy in Portland, ME, provides newly arrived refugees with financial education in English and their native languages.
The money is from the One Great Hour of Sharing offering.
Projects range from financial literacy education for newly arrived refugees in Maine to support for a group of residents in a low-income Puerto Rican neighborhood to create a landscaping service business.
Grants were approved at SDOP's national committee meeting in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic May 19-22.

Grant recipients announced
The National Committee on the Self-Development of People (SDOP) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has approved grants totaling $269,930 to 13 self-help projects in the United States. Money for the grants comes from the PC (USA)’s One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering.
