Preventing gun violence
Download the new Gun Violence Prevention Congregational Toolkit
Gun violence impacts most if not all of our communities. Many of our worshiping communities are in or near neighborhoods of increasing violence. Many Presbyterians know persons who have been victims of gun-related crime or violence. The 219th General Assembly in 2010 approved the resolution “Gun Violence, Gospel Values: Mobilizing in Response to God’s Call,” and that’s just what Presbyterians have been doing since then. In the past 2 years a movement has been building to not only awaken our members and worshiping communities to the faith dimensions of this on-going tragedy, but also to assist them in initiatives to more effectively address the problem of gun violence. If you’re wondering where to start, a downloadable “Congregational Toolkit” is now available to help congregations prevent gun violence. Please contact the Peacemaking Program if you have any questions or seek assistance getting started.

Once again the Peacemaking Program is producing a booklet of collected daily devotions for the Season of Advent. The devotions and accompanying prayers are brief and follow the daily lectionary readings. We invite you to use this resource — as individuals, households, or congregations — to prepare for the coming of the Prince of Peace. May it help you in “proclaiming the good news of God’s peace.”

In an increasingly conflict-ridden and fragmented world, the God who grants peace and wholeness calls Christians to understand and address the root causes of violence and injustice so that we may share in mending the brokenness that exists in our world. Peacemaking is the human response to God’s gift of peace giving. The Presbyterian Peacemaking Program invites leaders from our partner churches around the world to share their experiences as peacemakers in their own lands.

Oh, I almost forgot: the 50% remaining goes to the Peacemaking Program and funds all of the resources and programs you see on this section of the PCUSA website.

Ross, Peacemaking Offering is split 25-25-50. Whatever each congregation collects, 25% goes to the congregation to be allocated by committee/session vote. Similarly, 25% of the offering per cong goes to MGBs to be allocated by appropriate Pby/Synod committees. Hope that helps!

The link to the Facebook page is broken. It simply says: "Not Found" at the top of an otherwise blank page.

Is there a concise, yet focused, answer to the basic question: "What is the Peacemaking Offering money used for?" other than "ministries of peacemaking"?
