Situation Report
Tennessee and Kentucky Flooding
updated May 20, 2010
Families across Tennessee and parts of Kentucky have been greatly impacted by torrential rains and flooding. Forty-three counties in Tennessee were declared disaster areas following the early May 2010 storms. The metropolitan Nashville area was most seriously affected. At least three Presbyterian churches experienced severe flooding. The Presbyterian Voice, the online publication of the Synod of Living Waters, has information on affected Tennessee Presbyterian churches.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is responding. One Great Hour of Sharing funds have been provided to help with immediate needs related to the flooding, and members of the PDA National Response Team are working with the Presbytery and PC(USA) congregations, planning long-term recovery efforts.
How you can help
Volunteer: Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville is interested in helping the community with recovery efforts by hosting volunteers. Those interested in serving on a volunteer work team in the Nashville area can register your interest online or by calling the PDA Call Center at (866) 732-6121.
Assemble Clean Up Buckets: About 550 Gift of the Heart clean up buckets have been sent to help with flood clean up in Tennessee and Kentucky. Response to flooding in early 2010 has caused a shortage at the CWS warehouses. We are nearing the beginning of hurricane season, and clean up buckets will be needed.
