I was born and raised in central Ohio and have been so fortunate to be a member at Broad Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Columbus. Broad Street has really opened my eyes and heart to the needs of my community both on a local and international scale. I departed on my first mission trip to Peru the summer of 2004 and needless to say I was hooked. I proceeded to spend the next two summers there, for varying amounts of time, emphasizing the importance of our ministry of presence...being there for their community and filling any needs that I was able. This upcoming fall I will begin my year as a Young Adult Volunteer in Peru and am so blessed to be assigned to the Paz y Esperanza organization based in Lima. Paz y Esperanza is fighting against all forms of violence and sexual abuse of children in suburban areas of San Juan de Lurigancho in Lima and I cannot wait to join their efforts.
The Young Adult Volunteer program is a year-long service program for young adults between ages 19 and 30. Read more about the YAV program here
