YAV in India

As a religion major at Austin College and as an active member of the Presbyterian Church most of my life, I had heard about the YAV program as a great option for doing service work both in the US and abroad. During my studies, I fell in love with one culture that kept coming back to me: the vivid, diverse, beautiful culture of India. I applied to the YAV program with the South India program always at the back of my mind. At the Placement Event it turned out that my hopes and expectations were matched by my program director Dr. Thomas John, and I was accepted into a placement that I feel deeply called to. I will be teaching grades 5 through 8 English at the Buchanan School for Girls in Pallom, Kerala, South India next year for my year of YAV service.
The Young Adult Volunteer program is a year-long service program for young adults between ages 19 and 30. Read more about the YAV program here
