YAV in Korea

Anna is a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, having received her BA in psychology. Anna is passionate about development and education, and her placement in Korea is in part a reflection of that still-evolving call to serve in those fields.
Her time in Korea will involve working with children, teaching English but also learning about their experiences and their culture. The children in these programs come from suffering homes, struggling for a variety of reasons but with the common lack of resources to meet the demands of the country’s educational system. By teaching English and simply participating in the lives of these children, the YAVs in this program have the opportunity for a mutually life-changing experience.
Though she is unsure what the future holds, Anna is hopeful that the YAV year will provide insight as she grows in faith and discerns her own call. Through this program, she continues to learn what it means to be a Christian in every aspect of life. With this unique opportunity in a period of transition, Anna is opening her heart to God’s call about the present and future, patience and mindfulness, and a continued openness to the experiences of the world today.
The Young Adult Volunteer program is a year-long service program for young adults between ages 19 and 30. Read more about the YAV program here
