Joining Hands network in Lesotho

The “mountain kingdom” of Lesotho, completely surrounded by South Africa, is about half the size it was in the early 19th century, before South African settlers took over much of its fertile land. Today, water and hydroelectricity are among Lesotho’s leading exports. The extensive Highlands Water Project has enabled Lesotho to capture water and to supply water and electricity to South Africa’s industrial heartland around Johannesburg.

The PC(USA) has been involved in Lesotho through medical and other mission personnel and cooperative efforts with the Lesotho Evangelical Church. Through the Presbyterian Hunger Program the PC(USA) is accompanying Kopano ke Matla, the Lesotho Joining Hands network.
