In underserved areas of Africa, women struggle to protect the health of their families and to stay healthy themselves. Healthy Women Healthy Families helps PC(USA) church partners provide health education, preventive health services and medical care to women and children at mission hospitals and community health programs. Healthy Women Healthy Family projects include malaria prevention and treatment for women and their families, obstetrical care, fistula surgery, cervical cancer screening and family health education for women, and immunizations, health screenings, nutritional rehabilitation and primary care for children. Institut Medical Chretien du Kasai (IMCK) is the primary health care facility and a center for medical education in the central region of Democratic Republic of Congo. Its services are centered at Good Shepherd Hospital, a 160-bed facility in the village of Tshikaji, where surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, general medicine, ophthalmology, radiology and laboratory services are offered regardless of the patient's ability to pay. IMCK also has a large outpatient clinic in the nearby city of Kananga. To continue to provide services to the poorest of the poor, contributions are needed to purchase medicines and health care supplies.
