Bridge of Hope, Peru

To support fair trade alternatives for artisans through the Bridge of Hope initiative of the Joining Hands Peru network with training, coordination and logistical support. To date, more than 200 artisans have started their own cooperatives, learned business skills and seen their incomes triple.

Bridge of Hope: Micro Enterprise Development and Trade Justice in Peru

Your donation helps artisans who meet Fair Trade criteria in the marginalized areas of Peru. This funding allows artisans to participate in capacity building for business management, development and product finishing, in order to be self-sustainable and competitive in local and export markets.

This process is part of a multi-faceted campaign engaged by the local Joining Hands network to promote trade justice between Peru and the United States.

Companionship Facilitator, Joining Hands Against Hunger, Peru

Rev. Jed Koball is filling this position, facilitating relationships among the Presbyterian Hunger Program, the Uniendo Manos Contra la Pobreza network in Peru, and U.S. congregations. Joining Hands is a program of the Presbyterian Hunger Program that fights the root causes of hunger by sparking the formation of networks in developing countries that lead the struggle against hunger at a local level while working with PC(USA) presbyteries and congregations to address global hunger issues.

This designated account supplements the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering to enable a significant response for relief and disasters in Peru. Your faithful giving is deeply appreciated.

FM: Aguaruna Outreach

The Presbyterian Church of Peru in recent years has initiated a frontier mission effort to extend the Gospel to the Aguaruna, an unreached people group who dwell mostly in northern Peru above Moyobamba. Support from Presbyterian churches in the United States has helped with Bible translation, financial aid for various mission efforts and the training of new Aguaruna Christian leaders.

Latin American Biblical University in Lima, Peru

Contributions will assist in providing scholarships for students in the undergraduate program at the UBL - Recinto Lima, Peru. This is the basic theological degree offered by the UBL. Funds will also go to extension programs offered off campus. At this time the UBL has an extension program in Ayacucho, in the southern region of Peru, as well as an extension program in the Castro Prison Center in Lima.

Mission Initiative, Delegations & Partnership Coordinators, Peru

This position is being filled by Rev. Sara Armstrong and her husband, Russell (Rusty) Edmondson. They coordinate partnership relationships between the Evangelical Presbyterian and Reformed Church of Peru (IEPRP) and PC(USA) entities. Sara and Rusty organize and translate for visiting delegations, helping to ensure that these visits reflect the mutual mission priorities of the partner churches.

Peru--Joining Hands Program

General support for program activities by the Joining Hands partner network in Peru focused on environmental concerns around water, mining pollution, especially in La Oroya, rehabilitation of children affected by lead poisoning, trade justice and human rights.

Professor Of New Testament, Peru

Following nearly a decade of mission service in Guatemala, Harry and Debbie Horne are currently appointed as missionaries to a branch of the Universidad Biblica Latinoamericana (UBL) in Lima, Peru. Harry teaches Bible and biblical language courses. In describing the students at UBL, Harry writes, "They have a deep concern for the largely poor communities in which they serve. They share a hunger for a space where followers of Jesus Christ can have theological dialogue that is open to these concerns and seeks answers in the Bible. I am grateful to be allowed to participate."

Regional Liaison, Andean Region

Gifts to this account will be used to defray the direct and indirect costs of travel and operating expenses for the work of the regional liaison in helping implement agreed upon programs with partner churches and institutions, supporting PC(USA) congregations and presbyteries in mission involvement with partners, and supporting PC(USA) mission personnel serving in the region. This region includes Bolivia, Peru, Columbia and Venezuela.
