Advisors for Health Ministries, Bangladesh

Since 1989, Drs. Les and Cindy Morgan have been PC(USA)'s only missionaries in one of the world's poorest and most densely populated countries, Bangladesh. They've served in hospitals and run village clinics. They've worked on controlling tuberculosis and leprosy. In August 2006, the Morgans relocated to the capital city of Dhaka, where they serve as advisors for the Church of Bangladesh health ministries.

Christian Mission Hospital, Rajshahi, Bangladesh

Christian Mission Hospital is a non-profit institution, providing inpatient services for Muslims, Hindus and Christians in the Rajshahi area of northwestern Bangladesh. The hospital's Nursing Institute, certified by the Bangladesh Nursing Council, provides a four-year training program for 75 students. Through its Primary Health Care Program, the hospital supports preventive medical services in the surrounding communities. The hospital also serves as the regional referral center for the government's tuberculosis control program.

FM: Bengali (Bangladesh)

Funding through this ECO supports two different ministries. One is the Sylhet Presbyterian Synod (SPS) in NE Bangladesh, which has four presbyteries and 7,000 members. The SPS is the product of Welsh Presbyterian mission work. The other ministry supported is Talitha Koumi, which is directed by Rev. Philip Adhikary, a Baptist pastor. Both ministries focus on the tribal and minority Hindus in Bangladesh.

The Church of Bangladesh, a partner church of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is nurturing the healing ministry of its congregations, development projects and hospitals. The healing ministry of the church extends to Muslims and Hindus as well as to Christians, and it is a critical part of the church's overall outreach.
